One Happy Chappy

Actually got out for the second time this season....the weather being as it has been, but it was a glorious day on Sunday and the picture is taken on our return from Swanage.
Boat still leaks like a seive at one of the legs, but at least the bilge pumps work!!!
And we had to come back in on one engine on Saturday as the port one overheated, turned out the valves I had added to the thermostat housing for taking hot water off to the calorifier vibrated open dumping the coolant into the bilge as the hoses arn't connected yet.
Still, at least I know the high temp alarm works!!
That engine has always run hot anyway but I am starting to think it might be an electric issue as sometimes the gauge changes by 20 deg in a couple of seconds which seems a bit quick. You can cruise at 3000rpm for half an hour and the gauge will fluctuate from 85C to just over 100C for no apparent reason.
Any ideas??

What make are the sensors and gauge? They have always been fairly cheap to replace the senders when I've done one.

They are normally resistance based on temp senders so it could just be a bad connection, have you got an ammeter? you could wire in some flying leads and test each engine to diagnose sender, wiring, gauge

I'm down your way in a couple of weeks I'll gladly take a look with you if you want?
