Regal 2550 LSC

Postby Gazjen » Wed Oct 19, 2011 3:54 am

Finally got round to posting some pictures of my newly acquired Regal 2550 Wake Up.

She is 24' 10" long with a Volvo 5.7 Duo Prop drive

Moored at Trent Bridge Nottingham.

Back on its new mooring in the Marina.

Some pictures of the lift out and transport

Very dirty hull will sort that out once I get a trailer for her next year

Image

Quite a clever arrangement the guy had on the trailer for adjustment to suit different boats

Image

Almost ready to go

Image

Through the streets of Christchurch at the start of its 200 mile journey.

Unfortunately there are no photos of it going in the water at my end due to the fact I was a little preoccupied trying the get the trailer past the stepped hull in two feet of water before night fall

Really pleased with it so far but must start to think about winterising it. Hopefully there will be many a happy day & night aboard for my family and friends in the not to distant future.

Coming to a coast near you soon :)

Look good Gaz, presumably you will use it a bit before you winterise although the time is getting close. We had a light frost on the car this morning even in the comfortable south.
Any more details you are prepared to divulge... age, engine hours, price, etc. The condition looks good apart from the dirty hull which you can sort at your leisure over the winter.
Any photos inside?

Yes no problem its a 2000 with around 300 hours. Price wise it was reasonable :) It's been really well looked after and I have all the bills and original receipts in a large lever arch file.

Needs a trailer though, that will be next years purchase as with another little one on the way we will probably stay on the rivers next year.

It's not as big as I thought it was going to be out the water but it's still fairly large on the trailer. Should be fun to tow :)

I'd found that post on the regal forum while conducting my research, that was really odd issue he had. I've also been chatting with a guy in the states who has one and he has given me lots of useful information and ideas for a few modifications.

It really is quite a rare boat there's not much information about them about at all.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and winterise this weekend I want to remove the manifolds for inspection anyway so might aswell do it now while it's still relatively warm and light.

I like it and look forward to seeing it in the Spring too! Agreed that those stepped hulls are a nightmare when it comes to trailers and launching. I took my Regal 1800 to Cornwall in August and couldn't get it off the trailer in 2 feet of water either. It was jammed behind the rollers. If I reversed any further back with the trailer I would have had water well above the exhaust pipe on the 4x4. I ended up having to unhitch the trailer in the water and set my alarm for 3am for when the tide was high enough to float it off the trailer! I was exhausted and it wasn't much fun in pitch darkness! At least I was in the most picturesque part of Cornwall- St Just in Roseland.

I do like those Regals complete with rather tasety wing mirrors. There were a couple of Similar smaller boats at Littlehampton before I moved to Saxon Wharf.
Boats always look so much bigger out of the water and on trailers, but boat size is very dependant on suroundings as my boat was the largest in the boat trailer park at Littlehampton and seemed to dwarf other boats around mine howerver now at Saxon it is surrounded by Huntons and a big cranchi right next to it and she looks quite small even at 24ft.
Stept hulls don't usually lend themselves to roller trailers the ones I have usually seen are on bunk trailers, and I used a tow rope between car and trailer when water was low but it is very much a two man job as someone has to help steer the trailer while going down the slipway.
Very lovely boat Gaz I'm sure you will have a lot of good times and memories onboard.

Cheers Guys

I had the added issue of the marinas steel dolly trailer in the water behind my boat infact 18" behind my prop so had to turn it 90 degrees to allow the trailer to be pulled out the water

I was talking to the trailer manufactures at the Southampton show and the best idea to combat the stepped hull came from the Indespension guys who use a solid rubber 12" wheel to help it over the step.

Can't wait to get it up to its new mooring and start tinkering with it, I've got my eye on a petrol night heater for it as my first project, well at least when the cleaning and polishing is done and everything is working as it should.

It's was 14 degrees here today could of quite easily gone for a cruise today

That is a nice boat, and would I be right to guess that boats like that are an unusual site on the river?

As for a petrol heater.....that sounds terrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I think i'd rather a little portable gas heater

......or an extra jumper!!!
