Poole harbour meeting - 6th August

Postby jokaboat » Mon Jan 10, 2011 11:17 am

Bumped into mlines at LIBS and we had a chat about Poole. He is there week starting 6th August. I fancy a long weekend, or maybe a full week there so how about a forum meet that weekend?

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

I'm here anyway!
Thats if we are not all stranded in the Channel Islands from the week before!!!!!!!!
You don't think a bit of a gap between the two would be good?

I've not got a trailer so have no choice. I'm planning on going by boat the evening before and getting established on a berth. Sarah will probably come down by car on the day so that we can get about in the evening if necessary, depends on what we end up doing for accomodation. I might even take the Friday afternoon off and make a trip of it.

We could do a Saxon cruise 8) Jorida and IanH will be doing something similar I suspect.

My timings will be dictated by the fact that this is the formal family holiday.

Therefore its likely to be an early start on the Saturday to bring the boat/family down beating the holiday rush. We will put the boat in the water first thing.

I would guess that the accomodation will have a check in time of mid-afternoon so we will be ashore for a few hours around then. However, my son, who is 15, lives for boating and has done all the power boat training that I have and is very capable, therefore it is likely that he will be around on the Saturday all the time if there is a trip or meet planned.

I have dropped emails to Salterns and Parkstone (both of which are easy walking from where we will be) but had no response. The fall back will be Cobbs Quay who have been excellent in the past, we just fancied having the boat "under our nose" this time around.

I would love to do this, just need to think of the logistics with the mrs and a 2 year old and 6 month old (and maybe the dog  ), as I dont think I would get away with another weekend away with the lads! Could see if she'll drive down the same day with the kids, then make a short break of it. Any child friendly places to stay that the Poole Massive can recommend?!

Don't know if its child friendly but if you are a member of the RNLI then the training school in Holes Bay offers excellent value for money accomodation.

We're considering staying at the RNLI centre as well. We had a look round last year and it looks pretty nice.

Well this season is starting to take shape, Poole meet is on. I will be heading down with my brother by boat anytime on the friday, I would waant to do this in company so will tie in with anyone going from Saxon Wharf (except maybe Ian who I wont keep up with  ), our better halves and the 4 kids will drive down the same day, the weekend we were thinking of my brother and I out on the boat in the morning sat and sun then the afternoons spent with the family as the kids will be too small to go on the boats (although is there a speedlimit at Poole?), heading back sunday evening .

Heading back though again I would want to tie in with Solent guys. If you are all staying the week I could leave the boat there and head back with it when you all go back.

Any info I could look at regarding Poole harbour etc, moorings, places to visit, shopping for the girls, just to wet the appetite and let the crew know what it is all about?

Dbp101 is the man on the spot for Poole. We're looking at a run to Swanage and an evening run back. Lots in tne harbour to explore at low speed including a nice run up to Wareham. Ideal for small ones. I think once you've done the run there you'll be happy with tje trip back. Lets hope for good weather for some family friendly trips.

That would be good. A beach picnic is def one for the agenda. Perhaps the fishermen could provide.

i can recomend it and it's OK for kds BUT only 3 to a room, 2 ad & 1 kid- or its 2 rooms, strange seeing the rooms are big enough but it's there rules unfortunately. try the holiday inn express near by or 'thistle' on the marina front
