Any info I could look at regarding Poole harbour etc, moorings, places to visit, shopping for the girls, just to wet the appetite and let the crew know what it is all about?[/quote]

Rather than me ramble a while, try:

http://www.pooletourism.com

http://www.phc.co.uk/leisure.html

http://www.bournemouth.co.uk/

Its not for nothing that it gets rather busy in summer!!!!

If you come without a car the book into Poole Yacht Haven on the Quay if you can, it fills up every weekend in the summer.
Everything in the center of town is then within walking distance.

If you are bringing car and want it handy then its Cobbs or Salterns where you will be able to park for free.
There are convenient multi storeys near the Poole Yacht Haven but you gotta pay.......though its fairly reasonable.

That would be good. A beach picnic is def one for the agenda. Perhaps the fishermen could provide.

You mean you would like Matt and I to call into Sainsburys on the way down and get some fish for the barby?

I probably wouldn't be able to find any fish there either. :D

Seriously though, a set of feathers trawled behind a boat for some of the way at a slowed pace must produce some fish in the Summer! :D

Joining the party late but I will be around on 6/8. We are planning a trip over to Swannage as its their Carnival week and there should be red arrows flying over the bay about 11ish (slightly makes up for the fact that am going to miss the Bournemouth festival AGAIN this year.

I'm moving into Parkstone so will be heading off from there if anyone has booked themselves in or salterns nearby. Also happy to go along and see what they can accomodate in terms of boats if it helps?

Hopefully see you all then...if not before.

I booked my accomodation a while ago at the Lifeboat College, where would the best/nearest marina be to this?

Nearest to Life boat college by land is Poole Boat Haven at Poole Quay (walkable)
Or the new marina that should be finished by then situated in the old RO RO area over the bridge (run I think by the same people).
After that its Cobbs then Salterns.
Only cobbs has decent slip

I quite fancy this too

Think It would have to be a family outing as I'm already escaping to Alderney, Plus the daughter is pretty much as in to the boat as I am :)

When I looked last time I was down there moorings were quite expensive for the weekend, where is everyone going to be based?
I've stayed at that holiday inn just round the corner from the quay and it was pretty good.

Cobbs for me as it's MDL and therefore free. Not thought about accomodation yes but probably the Lifeboat place.

If your launching and staying Cobbs seem best, they charge £50 to launch but usually throw it in free if you stay with them over night at the per/m per night rate (cant remember what it is) - life boat hotel has a drop off pontoon, they wont let you stay but you could ask again.

I have tried contacting Salterns and they have not replied :(

We did Cobbs Quay last year and it was fine but as this is during our annual holiday and we are staying right next to Salterns then that would only be a walk away (or Parkstone for a slightly more energetic walk.)

Why don't Salterns and Parkstone repy :( :( - are they not Sport Boat friendly??
