I was trying, and failing, to make the point that acurate steering will not make the tide stop taking you somewhere. :P

We have duty free diesel on the quayside and are hoping to have a petrol installation by May (in for planning shortly). However, we can do petrol anyway ( 25 or 50 ltr cans and a fast jiggle pipe - this is now down to a fine art!) and it will be cheaper then the UK marinas but needs a little planning and organisation. We are more than happy to help but with our present petrol situation co-ordination and planning is the key - hopefully though this will change! The inner harbour does dry out and thus tide is a consideration for any re-fuelling.

As for VAT free chandlery we have a shop full and can order in any specials if you give us notice - any makes of any electornics, clothing etc and I'm sure we can do a cruise special that weekend. We are also the Duty Free agents for the harbour so can deliver cigarettes and alcohol at silly prices to your boats (gin last year from £6.50 a bottle and cigarettes at £22) I will check current prices and keep you all posted. Also because we are not in the EU we are able to supply Tohatsu 2 stroke outboards of any size. We will have a limited stock but if their is a certain size you would like let us know a couple of weeks before and we can check availability, prices etc.

We also run the water taxi in Braye harbour which is available from 8 am to midnight. We can then arrange transport to the campsite but it may be helpful to have numbers etc so we can help organise.

We are here to help in any way possible so please keep us posted.

Thanks for that, Transport could be useful and the chandlery will certainly get a visit :)

Alderney Gin is firewater be warned .
If buying duty free make sure you complete part one of the customs form on departure and part two on return.
Q flags will need to be flown until you have cleared customs .

Petrol advise you bring your own containers as makes it quicker to refuel for every one .
Deisel no problem the inner harbour does dry and you will lie alsongside the harbour wall (fenders)

When navigator I like to take a GPS readng every 15 / 20 minutes then mark it with the time on my paper chart. That way I have a visual check on XTE and helps to not get to lost so often esptially if you have already plotted your prefered course on the chart already. The main reason I do this of course is that after I have actually got my fag lit I could be anywhere.
Not so easy if you are driving and navigating at the same time I know but with each boat having experienced crew someone could look after navigation while not driving.
Sounds like it is going to be a great cruise and if the weather holds should be one to notch up.

I am not planning on coming along but I was looking at your planned route and cannot find "SWM Needles" - Do you mean "BRIDGE - West Cardinal Mark" or "SW Shingles", just looking out of interest.
