Huntons on the Solent

Postby salamis » Mon May 31, 2010 11:02 pm

I had a run out on a pals Hunton 36 the other week out of Saxon Wharf. We met up with another Hunton and had a fast run to Cowes for lunch followed by a very quick run to Newtown Cove. Then pretty much flat out back to SW.

OOOOOH, I do love those Huntons. Way way way out of my league though.

Was the other one the gold coloured hull one. Possibly one of the most gorgeous boats on the water.

I don't know if it's that one but apparently James May's cameraman has a powerboat.

Last time I say the gold one in the water it was being polished by a cute little blond who was also with the Hunton crew at the SB&R show. I think she's related to Mr Hunton as he was also at the show. Nice chap. I was admiring the 37 footer there and talking to a guy with a Hunton shirt on and said I'd love to meet the designer. He turned round and introduced to to the very man, Mr Hunton himself. A quiet pleasant (very rich) man. Didn't let me take it out for a spin though

The cameraman you are talking about is Ian May who is indeed the cameraman for Top Gear - he brought the raceboat "Garmin" to the show which is an old Hunton raceboat from the eighties. It was originally called "Kent Koi".

The "cute little blond" does work for Hunton although to my knowledge she isn't related.

Mr Hunton is a boat builder and therefore not very rich - take it from someone who knows!

Q: How do you make a small fortune out of building boats?

A: Start with a large fortune!

I think the very atractive blonde you refer to is in the black and white boat in my pictures and was driving it at over 50mph (what a girl) and the wife of the chap who owns the Hunton sales company. Lovely people who have supported the Hunton Powerboat company in more ways than one over the years.
