Just fitted my Evinrude 90hp v4 onto my Fletcher Arrowsport. Seems to get on plane very quicly so wondered if i upped the pitch to a 21" stainless prop whether it would severly change the acceleration. Can get hold of a bargain thats all so wondering if its worth the risk

Cue Cookee

One huge black art, prop sizing.

The only way to find out is to put it on and try it .

Can you get it on a sale or return basis?

How much of a bargain is it? I have a prop at home, pretty sure its an aluminium OMC 21p x 14.5 suitable for Johnson/Evinrude, that you can have for the cost of postage. Let me know and I'll dig it out the garage and check the details.

My boat came with a Mercury Alpha 4 blade 18P. Excellent for pulling a skier but tops out at around 30mph. Next I tried a 21P Mercury Laser 2 which took it to 42 mph but wouldnt rev past 4500rpm and was slow to get up on the plane. I got a cheap Mercury Black Max 19P to try and again quick on the plane but max revs at about 35mph. I've spoken to Steel Developments due to seeing several recommendations for them and they've advised a 21P Saturn SS and said the reason the Laser 2 is slow to get up on the plane is due to it having a long rake. I'll need to check with them what revs they expect the 21P Saturn to take me to because I'd like to be able to use up to 4800 and not top out at 4500 like the Laser.

Good luck, it is a minefield! I think a boat shop on the side of a lake with a demonstrator for each prop they had for sale would make a fortune!

Unfortunately no the prop ive seen is brand new off Ebay, supposedly £200 retail but can get it buy it now price £100, not much more than an alluminium prop.

I think i need to wire the Tach up and take her out just to see what rpm im getting, probably have a better idea then. I did some research today and found my Evinrude should be maxing out maximum 5600 rpm.

Thats very kind of you blued, as i said i'll take her out one more time and if i can afford to loose a few hundred rpm i may take you up on your offer, thanks very much.
