Well we got a little taste of summer last weekend so headed to Loch Ness on Sunday.

The water was absolutely freezing but it was very warm in the sun when you were back on the boat. Snow was forecast for this weekend but it looks to be sleet now. So much for spring!

YES!....About time you had some pix up there, brings back some nice memories. We used to camp about 2/3 of the way along the beach down a big gully, you'll know where i'm talking about. That shot looking down the great glen is embedded in my mind, I've looked down it that many times. Beautiful part of the world I look forward to pix of urquart castle from the bay made famous by sightings of nessie. Pix of Ft Augustus, very nice

I know where you mean, I've camped there myself a couple of times

I'm planning a prop suitable for cruising at the end of the month so I'll get photos of various parts from the length of the loch when its on. I'd probably run out of fuel using the one on there just now before I got to Ft Augustus! Just hope we get plenty of warm calm days like that one this summer.

I see 5 Nessies in the first picture, it may be the Guiness of course!!

Seriously, my Dad used to fish Loch Ness as a lad and I remember him taking us back to see all the relitives when I was 11 and showing me all the hotspots. Great days!

I could see me up there sometime in the summer likes........Blued, has any work been done to that slipway in the last 5 years as that was the last time I was up there. My old boat was on a snipe trailer that split then raised at the front & the boat just slipped in. I really don't know how a bunk trailer would perform plus I really don't want to fit a snorkel to the Hilux from memory, if you were facing out to the loch the water was shallow for ages straight out but to the right just off the slipway it got deeper but was pretty un-even

Talking about Guinness one would go down a treat just now Cap'n! Glad you like the photos. Those 5 markers aren't normally there, apparently there were a few divers out last weekend so I assume that was them. I only saw one surface and that was nowhere near a marker

There hasn't been any work done to the slipway unfortunately BZ, it is very shallow and I had the Pajero in so far I had to climb out the window to push the boat off the trailer. I'll get a photo next time and will also try pointing the trailer to the right - I remember you mentioned this before. It's quite tricky to launch with a car even with a 3 metre extension bar.

That slipway was a bit of a bugger when I had the Dateline & I was using the Pajero LWB as well, A bunk trailer would really struggle I think as the boat needs to float, Pushing it off the bunks in the dry would be Impossible. From memory the only other slipway is at Invermorriston Campsite & you've gotta camp there to use his slipway. Are there any down the River Ness or the Canal?

I'm not aware of the slipway at Invermoriston and after a quick google it's hard to tell from the satellite photos? There is a public slip at Inchnacardoch Bay just before you get to Fort Augustus. It has walls either side which I remember making the slip quite narrow when I took the jetski out there. I meant to check it out before so will have a look next time I'm passing.

There's nothing on the river, it's very shallow in places anyway. I know there is one on the canal just outside the grounds of my old secondary school, Charleston Academy. Problem is you need to pay to use the canal and it would take some time to get up to the loch. There's a swing bridge for starters!

My trailer is bunked and I managed to get it in. If you dont want to get the Hilux that wet you're more than welcome to dunk the Pajero

It's just that my boat sits high on the trailer. I'm positive that once you go down the concrete slipway if you point the trailer more into the bay there's deeper water there. I really fancy coming up for a long weekend in the summer. See if i can get some pix of nessie, since I've solved the mystery of the Loch Lomond wallabies lol. We'll have a few beers as well. As I'm typing this, some good memories are flooding back of times up there at Dores beach. Out of all the lochs in scotland i've fished. Loch Ness has never let me down. Brown trout for breakfast is the best
