Yes we got a similar letter from Saxon Wharf, in essence we can now have 30 nights at any of their marinas on the Hamble and the rest of the year at any other including the Thames, Solent and South West marinas.

So far we have stayed overnight once in 3 years :( :( so we are not likely to use this offer to the full. :? :?

I got the same and have so far used.. NIL.

I would prefer if MDL reduced the price and we lost some of the benefits. I.E why do we need a reduction on lift out costs. We get lifted out each time to go back in Dry stack.

by its nature the boats that are dry stacked tend to only be used for day trips. I would not moan if we were only given 5 free nights but had a few hundred pounds knocked off the bill. To cover services we never use or are likely to use. keep the Fuel at cost as that is the only benefit we really use

Hear hear Ian,

Perhaps we should lobby Jonathan? Time for a berth holders association?

Is it really "at cost"
Last time I looked at Port Hamble petrol was £1.61 per litre, with berth holders discount this comes down to £1.39.
Asda's price is £1.34 and they are still making a profit.

If you buy 100 litres that is still £5 extra, or saving depending on which you buy. I think I will stick with my jerry cans.

By my reckoning I have saved £250 over the last 4 years.

It's "at cost" to MDL. They cannot get such as good deal as ASDA so the price will be nearer a road side garage. I think Hythe is usually a few pence less than the Hamble as well. You can ask to see the fuel receipts at the marina as proof, but I've never bothered.

I'm lazy and cannot be *beep* with cans so will take the hit at Hythe on the basis I don't fill up every trip. I also don't like carrying several cans in the car, or, even worse, leaving empty cans in a hot car for several hours.

Horses for courses really.

I received the letter as well. I rang up Cobbs Quay a couple of weeks ago to book Little Rascal in for the 2 nights for the Poole meet, they said they cant reserve it but will make a note of it. Does this new policy mean we now able to book/reserve the nights via Saxon Wharf?

We went to CQ last year and they wouldn't take a booking, they said that we can just turn up and they will easily fit us in.

However, if a lot of forum members are coming along at the same time...

As I understand it, your home marina arranges everything for you, however I expect there will be a short learning curve for them as well.

Cobbs seem to always have plenty of room and I doubt there will be a problem getting a few boats in on the day.

Really struggling to find some reasonably priced accommodation for the 5,6,7th I'm not paying £700 for three nights! The holiday inn is £180 a night!

What time are those heading from Saxon planning on leaving on the Friday. Me and my brother have a half day so were thinking the afternoon but would want to do the trip in company.

Well I've got the Friday off so I can pretty much go whenever I like, I'll have a look at tides so we can plan a smooth trip past the Needles / Shingle Bank. The boss is coming down later by car, maybe not till the Saturday morning. I'm kipping aboard. Sometime in the afternoon sounds good.

I think Joridapilot is also coming down Friday but not sure what time.

Me too, would make sense to book all three (four if Ian H is joining us) in together.
