Will do
Monterey 214fsc - Joka-tu - Based at Saxon Wharf - MMSI 235078633 - Call sign 2DGA9

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Currently we are at 3 Ribs and 1 PWC (Paul), with a total of 10 people from the mainland (I've not included the ones starting in France or the Channel Islands).

The wind isn't looking good at the moment. For Tuesday (Which is as far out as it goes) XC Weather is forecasting F5 to F6 wind at the Channel Light Vessel which will make the crossing a tad uncomfortable.

Here's where we are at the moment and a look at our weather synopsis.

The two Low pressure area's which have been hangin out in the North Atlantic, South and South West of Icleand have moved around and joined over the UK, causing a period of unsettled weather.

Several weather sites have forecast they will stay over the next few days, however the High which has stayed in the Atlantic to the West South West of the UK may decide to move further East and take out the Low Pressure area's. There are several High pressure area's in Europe as well as a few Low's.

This time of year the wave height in the channel is usually no more than 3m with a wavelength of approx 30m even at 45knts. Even so, it's not the best type of sea to cross in a boat under 30'. As you Ribnet guys have said, with high winds it's not the most comfortable of crossings.

We will be deciding on Wednesday whether we will go. If we stay and are wrong and the weather changes to good, then are big enough to accept that safety is bigger than adventurism. If go it will be based upon a strong general acceptance that the lows have definately moved on and the weather will be good through to at least Monday. We are basing our plans upon our return rather than on the start, always the best way to plan a sea passage.

Just for info the Rib guys have a trip web site here

Click link

We can go along with / ignore as much or as little as we like but the chippy and bbq appeal as social events. My personal opinion only of course I'll go with the flow of whatever you guys fancy. I think we can sort that out on arrival.

Hi Martin,

Late decision last night that the weather is not stable enough so we're pulling out.

Matt and I and possibly some others are still out on Friday somewhere, not decided yet. We'll post here as plans progress.

Almost everyone else are planning on goin out on Saturday, meeting lunchtime in Yarmouth then heading somewhere for a bit of wakeboarding / fishing etc if you're about.

Anyone else in the Yarmouth area Saturday?

We were launching from Calshot and aiming for Alum Bay by 11:15 which was (as I understood it) the initial assembly point for Alderney.

However, as it is now postponed we probably will not bother as I can save a days leave and James can finish off school (it is the last day and they are only going for the morning so I was going to take him out of school as they never do anything anyway!)

My interpretation of the weather in the solent is that the seas are "slight" which should be fine for us, but James thinks he has seen "Wavelets" and F3+ winds which becomes a bit marginal in some areas. If the general opinion is that the weather is quite good and the seas should be fine for a Bowrider to skim around we might still come.

Although I have woken up to a beautifully sunny day and the forecast for the weekend is sunny with some cloud, the decision to call the Aldereny trip off may turn out to create the largest gathering of the forum since we started. Having said that I may just have put the mockers on it!! :?

T15 we had to make a decision and because of the changeable weather we called it off. However if you are around the Solent this weekend give one of us a shout. :D
