Left the boat moored up a bit too long

Postby Warpa » Mon Aug 29, 2011 8:23 pm

I knew it was getting bad and had intended to trailor it home a couple of weeks ago. Took it home today and was not best pleased with the state of it, work cut out for me

As you can see there is a fair bit of soft growth, not as bad where it sits in the soft mud, but bad none the less.

Gave it a soak in snow foam with little affect.

Then out came the pressure washer, got the growth off but not the stains.

A little rub before i had to go out showed that it would come up clean.
Image

gave the leg a coat of sealant when i got back, one more coat, then a coat of wax before i machine polish the rest of the boat.

Ooops, a common problem though!

I've not used it but I've heard good reports about Y10 stain remover.

On previous boats I have used starbrite hull cleaner to get the green and brown stains off the hull, great stuff just don't get it on your skin!
Wash the boat first to get the normal dirt, then rub some starbrite in, leave a few mins and wash off, comes up great.
Now with antifoul I don't have to bother, though when it came out of the water after just two weeks it looked a bit green

May have to try some of that if i ever need it, hull will come back up to its mirror finish this time, so got to it in plenty of time. nice to bring it back to flush the engine although that can still be done in salt water on muffs.

For a cheap cleaner, use Cillit Bang. Tesco and Poundland often sell it very cheap (buy one get one free).

Do not get it on your hands as it takes the skin off two days later.

Spray it on and spread it around with a cloth, leave and rinse off.

When you get a chance, check that the water hose from the leg into the Gimbal housing is not kinked.

Hi Warpa

I cant tell clearly from the video but it looks like your muffs have been slid onto the leg from the 'prop' side rather than the 'transom' side of the leg. Its always good practice to slide them on from the transom side, that way if the prop engages whilst flushing, you wont damage it or the leg if it catches the muffs V bar whilst spinning the prop. I'm sure you won't sit there revving it in gear, but one day you may just get the urge and it could be very expensive for you. You can also get some drift from the gearbox and the prop occasionally turns very slowly on its own even when in neutral

Can you polish my boat for me please???? :D

regards

The muffs are to better ones that are two pieces with a metal pin that slides through the holes in the leg, it cant slip off. Im assuming you meant the type of muffs that are like headphones??
Im happy to polish anyones boat, but all good things take time and it would need to be left on my drive for a couple of weekends, or one weekend depending on weather. Its something i would rather do for a living as i get a lot of comments on the cars i do.

Started to peel off the pinstripes this evening, going to clean the lines of the boat up and get rid of the dated pinstripe effect, plus they were all damaged in various places.

I have just re read the post. The hose is not kinked, are you thinking the flow of water coming out of the engine is low? It was filling a 25L bucket in about a min and has a new impeller at the beginning of the season, also being the 3L it only blows water from the one side.

Glad you're using the other type of muffs, less likely to fall off then the headphones, just couldn't see on the vid
The boat polishing was a complement, you've done a great job, just wish I had the time, inclination and skill to do it

Got most of it machined today, was in a bit of a mess.

Got rid of the oxidation

Needs another pass with the machine, as you can see the finish is not fully corrected, this can wait till its out for the winter.

Short vid of the boat and the tow truck  I just have a bit of wax to remove from under the hull so didnt video that, has come up like new and should fly when back in the wet stuff.
