Have you unpacked it? They might exchange it for an upgrade? Or buy another for the boat, then both you and the tenants are happy. :D

I have now put my heater in the engine bay and the demoisture bags in the cabin but I also opened all the windows slightly to allow air flow through. Im just wondering should I have done this or not or will it make the cabin even colder?!

I would close the windows unless they lead out into the covered cockpit.

Ok will do, I'll keep the hatch open that leads into the covered cockpit

I am operating it in Auto mode, which maintains the humidity at an acceptable level to prevent mold, damp and condensation.

My boat isn't too damp but even after a few hours you could visibly see and feel the difference. It has an auto drain function, so you can leave safe in the knowledge it will keep working. Unfortunately, I do not have a sink (only a loo) to drain off to, so I am using a 25L drum, which should fill every 3 days.

I paid £169 for it and although my chandlery are selling one for £119, it is of the compressor type which only works from 5 degrees, mine operates between 1 degree and 40 degree range. The biggest benefit and one I didn't account for, was the warm air it generates leaving the cabin warm AND dry avoiding the cost of any supplementary heating device and this I am sure will keep it working within the temperature range. Totally recommend. Thanks T15. :D

How is this working on the boat?

This is a new simplified model with fewer controls, The mark 4 is generally slightly more expensive

I don't know the difference in performance but I am sure either would be fine in a boat.

Ian

It is the simplified version of mine, which has buttons on control panal as opposed to the turn knobs. Mine works a treat and the boat is warm & dry now. :D

Just had the bill for the annual service and winterise that that's it for me this year.

Couple of minor maintenance jobs to do but nothing to get excited about.

I have just completed the annual service & winterise myself, all done according to the Monterey schedule for less than £100. It is criminal what a boat yard charges for such an easy task. I haven't removed the leg though, a bit specialist for me.

Ive asked to shadow the engineer when he does my winterising this week so I understand the engine and all the parts etc, then hopefully I'll be able to do it myself.

Their winterising was

Winterise engine while servicing: Add two stroke oil and stabiliser to fuel filter. Fuel stabiliser added to tank.
Run engine and flush with antifreeze. Seal air intake. Seal exhaust. Remove propeller. Grease and tape up
shaft. Spray engine with corrosion inhibitor. Slacken the belts to prevent stretching over the winter.
Disconnect battery. Domestic water system drained down. Removed shower head and left in cup holder in cockpit.
Antifreeze run down cuddy sink drain. Some water still in pipes so pipe removed and left in bilge.

I can do all that and will be next year as the warranty is now done.

Service was

Service on Volvo Penta 4.3GL/SX
Run the engine up to temperature
Check operation of thermostat. Check for water/oil/fuel/exhaust leakage around the engine and
transmission. Check ignition timing and idle RPM. Check air filter. Check for abnormal engine/transmission
sounds. Check operation of emergency lanyard. Check all instrument panel functions.
Check air filter
Check spark plugs - all OK - clean, re-gap and refit.
Change water pump impeller
Check distributor cap and rotor
Visual check for any manifold leakage
Check tension and condition of belts
Check condition of all hoses and clamps
Check tightness of clamps on all water, fuel, exhaust, drive bellows and drain fittings.
Check power steering and power trim function for levels and leakage. Check all cables and controls
Change engine oil, oil filter and fuel filter. Lubricate all grease fittings & linkages
Check/torque all engine mounts
Grease up gimbal bearing and pivot points where applicable
Check and grease battery connections
Restart engine on completion. Check oil pressure. Check for oil, fuel, water or exhaust leaks.

I could probably do all that but at the moment the Volvo warranty is still in force but would not be it I missed a service by an approved agent.

Southwater will be doing my service as well but as the last one was done in the Spring this year i'll wait until Feb time next year to get it done.

But you know that everything on the bill has "Actually" been done. Spoke to a friend of mine whom tried a different engineer last year, They now reckon half of the service was not actually done.
