General question about cleaning cars and boats

Postby jokaboat » Mon Feb 27, 2012 10:25 am

One for Warpa really. Being in the same neck of the woods what do you do when washing cars, vans and boats? I find it a real pain as our water is as hard as you can get so no matter how much you rinse off you get nasty water marks all over the place.

Do you add anything to the final rinse to soften the water or is it just a case of using a leather to dry then polish off with a soft rag as I tend to do?

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

We have had a water softener fitted for the last 15 months and it makes a difference, we now have a shiney black car which would show every streak, it certainly shows the salt. However a wash and dry off with a chamois leather and it is perfect.
Not a lot of good for the boat, I am not carrying buckets of water down to Saxon

Always finish off with those blue "microfibre" cloths. Buy two or three, you can get mixed grades. Wipe off the water with the coarse grade, wipe down with the medium grade and finish with the fine grade. Not difficult as it is really just three quick walks around the car/boat.

Well joka there you are problem solved. Just take your car round to JP's house to wash it.

We've got sort of in the middle water here in Sussex and I still have to use a leather if I don't want streaks.
