New forum idea

Postby Capn Jack » Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:27 am

Hi guys

I've got a new forum idea, to be fair I think it might have come from someone else in the past. I know this should go under Admin but we lock them off and I would like your thoughts.

When I was servicing my little SeaRay last year I had some tools made and one or two which I made and also purchased. I've just been refirbing the Trim solenoids and have the Mercruiser service tools sitting on my bench doing nothing. So I was thinking that they could come in useful for anyone else wanting to do some DIY. :D

We list the tools under the Forum name....i.e. Alignment Tool, if it's mine, I would post letting you know the terms e.g. you pay for postage and packing but you must be known to me or a regular poster....type of thing.

You could save a packet. Oh and that carpet bag in JB's garage.......err parts department!!

Seriously though, what do you guys think??

Sounds like a great idea as I have no tools. Seriously though, throw every tool at me in the workshop and I still wouldn't have a clue

For you mechanically minded guys, could be a great scheme.

That does remind me of when I worked at a leisure club and played a trick on a work experience lad. I told him that the swimming pool level looked uneven and that he needed to get a bucket, fill it up with water from the shallow end, walk to the deep end then pour said contents of bucket into the deep end. If he did it 7 times (which he did) then the pool would be just about level. I did tell him afterwards I was pulling his leg and he saw the funny side so no harm done in the end. :)

And on a similair theme, on leaving Sandhurst and joining my infantry regiment as a young 2nd Lieutenant I was sent to the stores to collect mortar rounds for the indoor mortar range! Nearly fell for it too!

markanddawn- the joke here being 'long weight' meaning not really a fishing 'weight' but a 'long wait' ie. no fish to catch! :D

long stand, Tartan paint, left handed screw driver, bubble for a spirit level, I love having apprentices :)

I got hung on the over head crane one dinner when I was an apprentice mind you I did go round the stick welding plants and put sparklers in them :)

I think we are quite tame to the apprentices now days

I do like the pool one though, How can I use that one at work

In one of my garages the Service Dept lads had a small petrol air compressor which they used occasionally off site, they had asked a new apprentice to try to bump start it by running it up and down the workshop......

And then there another time I was in the same Service Dept. when I spotted an apprentice holding a container underneath a wire near the battery of a BMW 750, I asked him what he was doing and he said "The car has a problem with it's electics Sir, so I've been asked by the Lead Technician to check for voltage drops" I couldn't contain myself, I had to leave!!
