For Sale Maxum 2300 SC - Or am I?

I am seriously thinking about selling my Maxum Don't panic, I am going to buy another. It is my intention to downsize to a more easily trailerable sportscruiser, so I can visit other coastlines around the UK and join in some of the SB&R forum cruises. I am thinking of a Fletcher 19 or 21 GTS with a large inboard and cuddy or something similar, open to suggestions.

I don't have a suitable tow vehicle and not having to pay for fuel in my company car (tax man takes it instead), means it would be daft to fork out on a 4x4 and trailer, so I may just as well get something my car is capable of towing. Think I can tow 1800kgs (Merc C350 CDi)

Anyway, whilst I haven't 100% made my mind up, I may be tempted by something like the Fletcher and willing to discuss (if anyone here knows anyone). Swap, PX, outright sale, cash either way. Once I fully commit, I will put on Ebay but being a little tentative at this stage as I am paid up at the marina, so no rush.

I also want to be able to get the boat in my garage, which is fairly large but only standard height and only has a standard single door A Fletcher will just squeeze through the opening. Advice very welcome here

Don't worry Joka. I will not be without a boat for more than 24 hours and I will keep my berth throughout he summer months in any case. There will be room for you on board whatever I choose, I may do nothing about it yet but SWMBO thinks its a good idea and it is rare I get the nod to do something so easily The boat runs faultlessly and sometimes better off sticking with what you know but I really would like to do some of the South coast with you guys at some stage.

PS I do like your Monty but it is more or less the same size as mine in reality, love the finish on it. I am hoping my boat is worth more than a smaller Fletcher type age for age, so rather than cash in, I am hoping to get slightly newer.

Once we have finished our house, the purse strings can be loosened and the who knows what I will get but I will almost certainly be trading up in size again, something like Matts would be very nice. And once I am out of this company car scheme, I can justify a suitable 4x4 to tow it

That is very kind of you. I would like to get around Tarrant, sorry I mean Bursledon....an old reference there to my favourite drama of all time purchased the box set late last year and the magic is still there. Howard's Way for those wondering what I am talking about.

I would just warn that all of us with smaller boats are looking to go larger, I would be concerned you woud regret going smaller.

I would still have thought a trailer and "throwaway" 4x4 would be a better option. Or even pay a 4x4 owner to move your boat for a few weeks ie. move it to the south coast for the summer (oh- no wait, you have missed the summer this year, it was in February)

Anyway why not pop down the M4 for our Lake meet and have a go in a smaller boat.

Hi Mark hope all goes well whatever you decide to do, I suppose one concern I'm sure you have thought about is you will probably lose space for a heads if you go any smaller. Either way if we manage to do any forum meets this year without the weather ruining it and you fancy it but are boatless, there is another offer here to jump aboard as crew.

Also, Howard's Way? Was that when we had black and white teleboxes?

We really are a bunch of Muggles us boaters we spend years wishing, dreaming, yearning for the day we can get a bigger newer faster boat. Then when we get there we sit back and think mmm you know we might have more pleasure and money if we go back to a smaller boat.
Truth is our boats sit on morings or in racking for what seems like 99% of the year after paying out two three or four grand to keep them. Then we have one trip out on a warm sunny day in flat calm waters and it all makes sense and we are happy with our lot. Just don't try to sell it to Alan Sugar as good business sense.
So you want to sell a Maxum 23 and by a 19 ft Fletcher why not who are we to comment or judge any member of the boating brotherhood.
One thing though I must point out is measure the wheelbase of any trailer because none that I have ever owned fitted through my standard garage door.

Mark I take it you've not been in the cuddy of a 19ft Fletcher yet?

They are very small at only 7ft beam and not very long it may be a squeeze, When I was looking the smallest I could really get away with was a 21ft Regal a 2150 but they are 8ft 6 beam or similar dimensioned chap or bayliner

Ask Dpb he may still have his 21ft Bayliner?

Matt thanks for the offer, the more I think about this the more I might just get rid of the boat all together, I have so many kind offers. Joking of course, I could not be boatless

Re Howard's Way in black n white, I think not, it is a childhood drama running at a time I was racing dinghies 3 days per week. After 3 races on a Sunday, Dad and I used to watch it. It is better second time around, having more understanding of business myself now. Surely you remember Matt, I think I am only 5 years your senior.

Robbie, I really am unsure but given this house we have just bought, which needs something like £80-100k spending on it over the next few years and consuming most of my spare time, thought a trailerable smaller boat might suit our circumstances for a while and allow us the opportunity to meet up with you guys.

Gaz, no I haven't tried a Flecher cuddy but I know what you're saying. In reality, we have only overnighted on ours twice in a year, so is a large cuddy that essential? Of course, I live 5 mins from the boat, perhaps when I trek around the country, will want a bigger cuddy.

In general, I would prefer to keep the Maxum because I am so worried that I would regret it but to buy a decent trailer and a useful 4x4 is gonna need 5 to 7k, which would pay for a new roof, rewire, new driveway, the list is endless

It would need to be a minter and ideally a 21 not a 19. I have my eyes on a 21 foot Bayliner too. My garage door is 2.3m wide, so if it doesn't fit, I will get Ed to cut it in half and rejoin it later he is good a that.
