South Wales Forum Tour?

Out of interest, are any of you regular forumites interested in a South Wales event? Before you all switch off I can organise pontoon mornings at favourable rates and have decent local knowledge for a cruise. For those in the same situation as me (no trailer), I can accommodate 9 on board (if the CE plate is to be believed), so less SWMBO and me, leaves room for 7. I have purchased a ringo if that sways it

Just some idea of who, before we get onto the when?

Always flat clam here, they even have an island called Flat Holm (ask the Cap'n) and we can certainly go there and Steep Holm and even Lundy if the weather is kind to us. Benefits of Bristol Channel include being able to visit England and Wales coastlines in the same hour.

About 9 miles across, nice place Kewstoke.

Regarding passport, I hope not because I didn't get one when I moved down from the Midlands

We have family in Cardiff and I am a Bristolian and have spent many hours (days!) looking at Flat Holm and Steep Holm from Weston/Barry/Brean. However, having sailed in the Bristol Channel a couple of times in my youth I know its a challenging area so would want company and also need perfect conditions for my little boat.

I agree Martin. The Bristol Channel is a steep learning curve, they reckon if you navigate here, you'll navigate anywhere. I have got used to it now and I am embarrassed to say that I have learned by my mistakes, having been given a tow (in a yacht) from the RNLI when caught in a notorious part of the channel which can run unto 15 knots of tide Still an experience and I learned a lot from it.

Depending on the weather, we will have a choice of places to visit.

If it is rough, we can stay in the bay (a safe haven). Fresh water and no speed limit (but no towing of toys etc) and ideal to flush the system after the sea.

Or, if the weather is kind we can explore the Bristol Channel coastline. I generally potter over to the islands and drop anchor and chill out I have cruised over to Watchet, Minehead and along the Welsh Coast half towards Swansea. Would be nice to do it with company of the Forumites

Loads of local B and B and I'm open to go anywhere the majority decide. Believe it or not, never got over to Weston, there's never any water there

You're not wrong about that.

Sand bay is a pretty place for about 15 seconds twice a day! The rest of the time it's a magic place where dogs like to get smothered in mud

In laws live in an ex farm house just over the dunes from the beach. Sort of nice but I've never been to a bleaker place when the wind gets up. I suppose it's called bracing
