It's safe so say I won't be appearing on dragons den with this. They are a complete failure, one was missing and the other was half way up the upright. The cockpit carpet is absolutely soaked so is now in my car to take home and dry out, I'm sat in the pub at shamrock quay deciding what my next brilliant idea will be at the moment I have shoved a plastic bag in the hole while my brain ticks over.

I could try that the problem is the holes are very big surrounding the upright so will have to see if laying the poles down would cover the holes.

I lay the ironwork down before fitting the tonneau cover. It did lay directly on the gel coat which started to scratch so I made a couple of acrilic blocks to take the weight and the cover then just goes over everything. I'ml be pleased to show you when we meet up next at Saxon.
Sorry they didn't stand up to this harsh weather but they were on your boat looking fine last Sunday as we popped along to check on Avalon what with all this rain so took a look at your little devices and all was well then.

Thanks Robbie, I will try what both you and Ian suggest, it just means more faffing about with poles etc but I suppose its better than taking wet carpet home after everytime it rains!

Also not forgetting that if the rain gets in then the dust from scrap heap will also find its way in. The last thing you want is rusty dust and water. A receipt for stains

Ditch the carpet, it will deteriorate with time anyway and fit fake teak decking
http://www.sportsboat.co.uk/forum/index ... =viewtopic as my earlier post, doesn't matter too much if it gets wet, it drys off quite quickly.

fake teak is sooo expensive, i looked at it for my Trophy . After all it's just
glorified lino.

Anyway, the cover problem. What you need is to ask a cover guy or sailmaker to add some boots
to the cover. with velcro at the side opening and either string to lace the top shut or a webbing strap
and sliding bar buckle.

Similar to a sailcover where the cover goes around the mast, it won't make it 100% watertight but it will make a big difference.
Whoever made the cover shouldn't have left a big open hole there ? unless it's factory canvas then they tend to do things like that.

To minimize water running down the cover and into the hole you can also cover some piping chord in canvas and sew that onto the cover to direct the water away from the hole, but as long as you get a boot on there you shouldn't need the piping chord trick. I mainly do that where there is a large outboard opening to direct water to the sides of a cover.

I didn't think the price was too bad, although I did all the labour myself and didn't charge myself for myself. It was quite time consuming, making templates, negotiating with manufacturers and then laying the stuff, but well worth the effort. If I had had someone do the whole job for me it would have been more than double.

By the way, it is still looking good with a quick wipe over, now into its third season.
