You probably know this but the cruise liners Oceanic and New York were moored alond side each other (rafted) at the docks in Southampton Water at the time Titanic set sail. The huge volume of water the Titanic displaced, lifted the New York and then dropped her snapping her lines like string. The stern started to swing towards Titanic and may have hit her, but one of the tugs got a line on her and pulled her round. The pilot threw Titanic into astern in order to slow her and calm the massive wake she was creating.

Imagine riding that today guys.......

Wow! That is great footage- thanks Cap'n. I'm surprised they didn't dig that clip out of the archives during the recent anniversary. I think she departed S'hampton from the dock just north of the VTS building where the Queen Mary 2 usually berths? Appreciate that that clip was Belfast. I find any footage of her really eerie when I see it. Thanks once again. :)

Great footage Cap you really do get a great perception of it's size from that clip.

Anyone been to to the new museum yet?

I'm hoping to get there later in the year.

Imagine....you're 18 yrs old and you are crew, say a deck hand, you survived and are grateful for it. You've arrived back in Blighty and someone is cranking a box on a tripod pointing at you. Would you realise how precious the footage would become, priceless perhaps?

unfortunately I read recently that those 18 y/o survivors came back grateful but end up in the trenches a few years later, most imfamous is the news boy picture, 'Titanic sinks' - sobering thought
