Boat Cover Repairs

Hi All

Appoligise if there is already something on this forum in another thread.

However I was wondering if anyone has any top tips / companies that do repair kits for boat covers. My cover is only a couple of years old however over the winter a couple of holes 10-25mm have appeared in the cover along with thinning where it sits on side rails.

Just need a simple solution to try and repair those holes and support the thinning areas.

Ok where do I start ? Normally a canvas guy will sew reinforcement anywhere a cover is likely to
rub or where it will be exposed to excessive pulling like at openings or tie downs etc.

What we need to establish is the type of material, do you know what it is ? or can you post a pic ?
and if you intend sewing it yourself what type of machine do you have or would you hand sew ?

As for sewing in reinforcement there are a few suggestions, which one you go for will depend on the
type of machine you intend doing the repairs on or if you are thinking of hand stitching ?

When I make a cover areas of high wear are reinforced with either a double layer of the cover material
or for a really hard wearing reinforcement I use the clear window material sewn to the inside of the cover.
It works really well but you do need a pretty good sewing machine, sewing window material will most probably
kill a domestic sewing machine sooner or later.

Patching the holes is easy, you just need some of the same or similar material, cut a piece larger than the hole
to allow you to turn the edges over to prevent unravelling.

If we can determine the material you need I have most of it in stock and if i don't i can probably get it for you,
and i also stock small bobbins of marine sewing threads etc if you need it.

I think it is the standard cover that Fletcher Supply who ever they use..

hiya

looks like a black canvas to me ? if it is factory canvas you may find a label
somewhere that tells you the fabric brand.

I can hook you up with everything you need coverwise we just need to make sure
what type of fabric you have, how much you need and how the cover is going to be sewn ?

If you have a winter cover or a spare tonneau we could always do a postal job

On a similar note, well not really a repair, what sort of cost are you looking at for a set of camper covers, including the fabric section of the bimini, for a Searay 215 EC?

The ones we have right now are somewhat knackered, mostly zips that have failed and a couple of splits, so thinking about a compete new set.
