Rear Nav Light Socket

Postby blued » Tue Jun 19, 2012 11:25 am

I've never used the rear light on my boat but thought I might need it on the Garda trip. I cleaned it up and tested it works using a spare battery in the garage. I then plugged it in to the socket at the back of the boat and it didn't work. I removed the socket and it is badly corroded where the wires attach to it. The copper wires seem to be black inside no matter how far I cut back so I'll probably need to renew.

Does anyone know where I can buy a new socket from by itself? The terminals on existing one are beyond repair. If possible I'd like to avoid buying a complete light kit. My local mariner doesn't have what I need, although I have another one to try.

Replace the wire with marine grade tinned cable - not enough manufacturers use it!

Aah I knew I'd forgotten something while I was in the marine store, wire!

They gave me a lead on a site that does light bits - http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine/per ... ccessories

Part 730752 looks similar (although fancier) to what I have. I'm going to need to measure the pole diameter and get in touch with them.

EDIT:

Better yet - http://www.fishingmad.co.uk/jm51272-jar ... prong.html

The search became easier when I realised it was called a 'stern light base' :)
