FairFuelUK, the group battling for lower fuel prices, has successfully collected the 100,000 signatures needed for the matter of fuel prices to be eligible for discussion in Parliament. Led by Robert Halfon MP and renowned motoring journalist Quentin Willson, the petition will be officially presented to the government on 11th October. But the battle has only just begun...
Now that the Government e-petition has received the amount of signatures required, no more supporters are required to add their John Hancock to it. However, FairfuelUK are still asking people to sign up to their own website www.fairfueluk.com and will soon be encouraging their supporters to contact their MPs in the run up to the debate, to 'encourage every MP to play an active part and to add their own weight to the battle.'
In an email to thank their supporters, FairFuelUK wrote that 'reaching the 100,000 is a major milestone in our campaign. We know that many local and regional press releases picked up the news. However, we were a little disappointed that the national media outlets did not pick it up. This shows just how vital it is to keep the pressure on if we are to keep the issue of cheaper petrol & diesel high up the media and political agendas.
Once again, thank you for your support, without which, none of the above would be possible,"
