Yamaha USA Still Looking for a Buyer for Century Boats

Despite talking to numerous interested parties Yamaha Motor Corp USA is still interested in selling the assets of Century Boats. century

Yamaha originally bought Century in 1995 as part of a strategic move to grow its outboard share of the US offshore market adding the builder to its portfolio which also includes Skeeter Boats and G3 boats. However Yamaha discontinued Century production in December of last year in a bid to concentrate on core operations. At its peak in 2007 Century’s sales peaked at over 1,000 transoms.

Century started boat production in 1926 in Wisconsin but moved to Micegan in 1928 where it remained for over 60 years. In the 1930s Century held the world outboard speed record with a single seat monohull and continued to build sleek wooden 'classic' motor boats until the mid 1950s. In the 1980s Century opened a Panama City plant producing tournament ski boats which still had classic lines, much like a Chris Craft. By the end of the 1990s Century had diversified into a line of saltwater fishing craft ranging from 17-30ft aimed at the tournament fishermen and pleasure markets which continued to have the performance and style of earlier craft.
