| Two in two months Two RNLI lifeboats in two months have been severely damaged and taken out of action. On 03 February, the Portrush lifeboat, Katie Hannan, suffered severe damage to the hull during a rescue of three people on Rathlin Island, where it ran aground in harsh seas and severe gales. And just seven weeks later, during a ferocious storm in the early hours of 22 March, the Dunbar RNLI all-weather lifeboat, Sir Ronald Pechell Bt, broke its mooring and was swept onto rocks at Torness, sustaining very serious damage. |
