Two in two months
Two RNLI lifeboats in two months have been severely damaged and taken out of action. On 03 February, the Portrush lifeboat, Katie Hannan, suffered severe damage to the hull during a rescue of three people on Rathlin Island, where it ran aground in harsh seas and severe gales. And just seven weeks later, during a ferocious storm in the early hours of 22 March, the Dunbar RNLI all-weather lifeboat, Sir Ronald Pechell Bt, broke its mooring and was swept onto rocks at Torness, sustaining very serious damage.

First woman P1 driver
Shelley Jory, one of the UK’s leading powerboat racers and columnist to our sister paper All at Sea, has been signed up as driver of the LUCAS OIL team, making her the first woman to enter the P1 Evolution class. Shelley, who has previously won the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Championships, will be driving the Mercury powered Skater V399 superboat and racing with team owner and throttle man, Nigel Hook.

MRL, the sole importer of Stingher and Predator RIBs, has taken delivery of its new ten-metre flagship model. It’s official launch will be at the Guernsey Boat Show on 24 April but it will also feature at the Sports Boat and RIB Show at Hamble Point from 03 to 05 May.

Nothing can teach you the art of driving like a rampant Thundercat on a blustery day. I know this because I've spent much of the last month getting it wrong.
